New Chess Workshop to be held at Dickson Mounds Museum February 8

LEWISTOWN, Ill. – Dickson Mounds Museum is hosting a new workshop – Experience the Game of Chess – on February 8. There will be two sessions. The first session is from 10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m. and is for kids ages 9-16 years old. It is a chance for those who are new to chess to learn how to play and for those have playing experience to acquire basic strategies. The second session is from 1:00-3:00 p.m. and is for participants ages 17 years old and up. This second session is a great opportunity for those who already know how to play to find their match and hone their skills.
Registration for both sessions is required by Wednesday, February 5. Space and supplies are limited. Some chess boards are supplied; however, participants are encouraged to bring their own. Light refreshments will be served. Please call 309-547-3721 to register or for more information.
This workshop is free; however, donations are appreciated.
The Illinois State Museum-Dickson Mounds is located between Lewistown and Havana off Illinois Routes 78 and 97. The museum is open free to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every day.
