Illinois State Museum will reopen to the public on November 4, 2024.  Work is ongoing so some areas of the ISM will remain closed. We anticipate the project will be completed at the end of March, 2025. Check back here for updates.

The following exhibits will be open:

  • The entire first floor including the natural history exhibit Changes and the Wildlife All Around Us exhibit
  • On the second floor open exhibits include Here, There: New Perspectives from the Collection, and At Home in the Heartland

Changes: Dynamic Illinois Environments

The Changes exhibit allows visitors to travel into the past to see how Illinois has changed and how it continues to change today.

Here, There: New Perspectives from the Collection
Second Floor Gallery

This exhibit is a guest-curated exhibition featuring modern and contemporary artworks from the Illinois State Museum.

Interrupted Journey:A Photographic Journal of Bird Rescue and Relationship

The Illinois State Museum’s new exhibition provides a look into one artist’s ongoing work with bird rescue and release in the Chicago area.  Lloyd’s work is rooted in her Indigenous perspective of mutual respect and relationship to the land and nature.
