Meet the Artist of New Exhibit at Dickson Mounds Feb. 25

LEWISTOWN, IL – Dickson Mounds Museum is hosting “Meet the Artist: Jeff Moore” on Sunday, February 25, 2018 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Jeff Moore, an Illinois photographer whose work is the focus on the Museum’s latest exhibit, Eagles: Kings of the Sky, will talk about his work and experiences in the field.

Jeff Moore specializes in birds and waterfowl hunting. Every year, he pursues his passion across the state and nation, as he tries to widen his photographic experiences. Eagles have always been one of his favorite subjects because, in his words, “they represent the F-16s of the bird world.”

In 2016, Moore’s shot of a retriever dragging a goose was selected in the prestigious Communication Arts Photo Annual. Sotheby’s used his photos in 2014 to sell one of its most expensive decoys ever sold. In 2006, his work was honored as Best in Show by Illinois Outdoors Magazine. In 2009, Jeff’s picture of an Eider Decoy was chosen as the cover of Robert Shaw’s book Bird Decoys of North America.

Jeff’s work has appeared in Ducks Unlimited and North American Retriever magazines, as well as Decoy Magazine. Today, Jeff still hunts along the Illinois River near Frederick and brings his camera along every time. All of Jeff’s work can be seen at jeffmooreimages.net.

As part of this event, Lewistown’s Native Trails Winery will host a wine tasting at the Museum and have wine available for purchase by the glass. Visitors may have the opportunity to sample one of seven wines made from locally-grown grapes. Other light refreshments will be served. Admission is free; however, donations are appreciated.

The Illinois State Museum-Dickson Mounds is located between Lewistown and Havana off Illinois Routes 78 and 97. The museum is open free to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day.
