Dennis Stroughmatt et L’Esprit Creole to Perform at Dickson Mounds November 3

LEWISTOWN, IL – Dickson Mounds Museum presents Dennis Stroughmatt et L’Esprit Creole on Saturday, November 3 from 1:00-4:00 p.m.  The performance will feature vibrant music and stories relating to the Illinois Bicentennial.  A blend of Celtic, Canadian and Old Time sounds, this music bridges the gap between contemporary Canadian and Louisiana Cajun styles. Preserved by families in the Ozark foothills, the music remains largely intact and true to the traditions that have been passed down for over three centuries.  

A medley of music, language, stories, and culture secreted away in the Missouri Ozarks now has a voice in this special performance. With the blessing of the Creole people of the Midwest, Dennis Stroughmatt et l’Esprit Creole are its passionate ambassadors, expanding interest and excitement in a region that has been, in many ways, ignored by the history books. What many have considered to be long lost is alive and kicking.

This event is for all ages.  During the intermission, kids may enjoy a variety of hands-on activities relating to Illinois’ French Voyageur period.  Light refreshments will be available.  Registration or advanced tickets are not required, though seating will be limited.

The Illinois State Museum-Dickson Mounds is located between Lewistown and Havana off Illinois Routes 78 and 97. The museum is open free to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day.
