Woody Guthrie Music at The Museum on Oct. 12
ISM Location: Springfield
For Immediate Release:
SPRINGFIELD, IL – Historian/songwriter/guitarist Bucky Halker will perform songs of Woody Guthrie, the Dust Bowl and the labor movement at the Music at the Museum Concert Series on Thursday, October 12 at the Illinois State Museum Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. Halker has been called the “The living heir of Woody Guthrie,” and his music “conjures up the passionate fire of John Steinbeck.”
A native of Ashland, Wisconsin currently residing in Chicago, Halker’s songs draw extensively on his experiences on the road, his Midwest populist roots, and his strong interest in American history. He is a recognized master of the music of Woody Guthrie, while elements of country, folk, blues, and rock all make their way into his original songs, drawing comparisons to Steve Earle and John Mellencamp. The Chicago Tribune called Halker “one of Chicago’s most interesting songwriters” and the folk-music magazine Dirty Linen described him as “incredibly appealing” and “a great singer.” Halker has extensive recording and touring credits, including several CDs, movie soundtracks, and European tours. He will be joined on many of the songs by series host Chris Vallillo, who partners with Halker from time to time.
The Music at the Museum concerts are hosted by Illinois singer/songwriter Chris Vallillo and take place every second Thursday of the month all year long at the Illinois State Museum Auditorium. Concerts start at 7:00 p.m. Admission is $10.00 for adults and $8.00 for museum members and kids under 12. There will be a variety of desserts and drinks available during the break.
