Volunteers Needed at the Illinois State Museum in Springfield
ISM Location: Springfield
For Immediate Release:
SPRINGFIELD, IL – The Illinois State Museum in Springfield is looking for volunteers for its Summer Film Fest, and for assisting children, families and museum visitors throughout the year.
Illinois State Museum volunteers are provided with training and a few benefits in appreciation for their time. Some positions may require a background check. If interested in one of the volunteer opportunities highlighted below, contact Elizabeth Bazan at volunteer@illinoisstatemuseum.org or 217-782-0061.
Summer Film Fest Volunteer
The Illinois State Museum is looking for friendly volunteers to assist with its popular Summer Film Fest program. The Summer Film Fest provides a 30-minute, engaging, educational film each Tuesday in June and July at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed to open the Museum’s auditorium, run the lights and audio-visual equipment (including a DVD/VHS player and sound system), greet visitors, and make announcements before the films. Summer Film Fest shifts are available on Tuesdays in June and July from 9:15-10:45 a.m. and 1:15-2:45 p.m. Summer Film Fest volunteers must be adults or teens age 16 and up.
Play Museum Facilitators
New volunteers are being recruited for the Illinois State Museum’s Play Museum, an exciting place where children age 3-10 can learn—through play—about art, people, and nature. Friendly, energetic volunteers are needed to greet and interact with families and groups and keep the exhibit neat. Volunteers must be adults or teens age 16 and up and able to work two shifts a month.
Museum Greeter
The Illinois State Museum is looking for friendly, outgoing individuals to welcome visitors to the Museum. Greeters work at the Museum's information desk to answer questions and offer orientation to visitors. Greeters may also help with administrative tasks as needed. A knowledge of the Springfield area, including local restaurants and attractions, is helpful but not required. Greeters should be adults age 18 and up and are asked to commit to two, three-hour shifts per month.
The Illinois State Museum is open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and Sunday from 12 noon until 4:30 p.m. The Museum is located at 502 South Spring Street in Springfield.
