Possible online services disruption due to Internet related outage

A worldwide technology outage is causing disruption to some State of Illinois online systems.  We are aware of this issue and are diligently working on restoration.

The Illinois State Museum is temporarily closing its flagship facility to visitors beginning Thursday, August 1, 2024, to accommodate a plumbing project that will involve asbestos removal and construction. The project is expected to last three months.

History Happy Hour: History Happy Hour- The “American Elephant”

ISM-Springfield
History Comes Alive banner; black and white photo of people sitting in the grass drinking beer Stop by Anvil and Forge afterwork On Wednesday October 16 at 5:30 p.m. to grab a drink and discover the fascinating history of the “American Elephant.” European awareness of American mastodons occurred around the founding of our country. It was a time of conflict between scientific reason, religion, and westward expansion. Differing ideas on these mysterious giants reflect changes in scientific thought and American national identity. Over time, the mastodon has fallen out of the minds of national political leaders, but there are still plenty of mysteries surrounding this iconic animal and stories to be told. This is a free program.
