BigRead - There, There Book Club: Exploring a Book by Indigenous Author Tommy Orange

ISM is hosting two Big Read book clubs! Explore the shared history of 12 contemporary Native characters that come together at the Big Oakland Powwow. The story interweaves a variety of Native voices that shed light into the complex history of urban Native communities. The story details love, pain, trauma, culture and the complexities of Native identity. Readers will gain insight into the trauma and history of relocation and removal while learning more about contemporary issues facing urban Native peoples. Join ISM's Director of Tribal Relations for a discussion of There, There by Tommy Orange. Participants will read the book (book provided for the first eight people registered) on their own time and come together for discussion. This program is offered both Online on Jan 25, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. or in-person at Dickson Mounds on March 25, 2023 at 2:00p.m. CPDUs are offered for teachers.
