What's Happening at the ISM-Springfield...

The Illinois State Museum is open and welcomes you to our headquarters facility. There are three floors of exhibits for visitors to explore AND our Museum Shop is open on the first floor.  Our space consists of several permanent exhibits while the rest of the galleries rotate exhibitions. The ISM-Springfield offers regular educational programs and special events that highlight the fascinating collection of the nearly 150-year-old institution (founded in 1877).  Check out the visitor information tab as well as the current exhibits tab. We look forward to your visit!!

Changes: Dynamic Illinois Environments

The Changes exhibit allows visitors to travel into the past to see how Illinois has changed and how it continues to change today.

Here, There: New Perspectives from the Collection

This exhibit on the second floor is a guest-curated exhibition featuring modern and contemporary artworks from collections of the Illinois State Museum.

Interrupted Journey: A Photographic Journal of Bird Rescue and Relationship

The Illinois State Museum’s new exhibition in the Hot Science gallery provides a look into one artist’s ongoing work with bird rescue and release in the Chicago area.  Lloyd’s work is rooted in her Indigenous perspective of mutual respect and relationship to the land and nature.
