Paul Mickey Learning Series presented by Dr. Duane Esarey, Director, Illinois State Museum - Dickson Mounds
The history of the Mississippian people of Illinois has been understandably dominated by the story of "Greater Cahokia" - a giant, three-part metropolitan area that arose near St. Louis starting around 950 AD. In recent decades, with archaeologists learning a great deal more about the 300 year history of the Cahokian metropolis, attention is shifting to central Illinois in the time before, during, and after Cahokia. New discoveries and new methods make these exciting times. Seven institutions have been working out the 500 year Mississippian history of Central Illinois, providing information on twenty-one prehistoric towns in the mid-state area.
Each month, the Paul Mickey Learning Series features a different speaker and topic in the Auditorium at the Illinois State Museum. For additional information, please contact email@example.com or (217) 558-6696.
