- Illinois State Museum, Springfield
Join Curator of History Erika Holst for a virtual walk through the Fashioning Illinois: 1820-1900 exhibition to learn about the types of garments worn by 19th century women at different ages and stages of life. You'll learn why children's clothing was white, mourning dresses were black, and wedding dresses were sometimes blue; see rare examples of maternity and work clothing, and how fashions were different for younger and older women. As a special bonus, Holst will take you into the Museum's offsite storage facility to show you the "runners up" dresses that didn't make it into the exhibition.
This program is free though donations are appreciated. Advanced registration is required by clicking here, and participation is limited.
