LEWISTOWN, IL – At Dickson Mounds Museum on Saturday, September 15 from 1:00-3:00 p.m., the Kid’s Day program will be ‘Archaeology’ in celebration of Archaeology Awareness Month.  Participants may enjoy learning about how archaeologists study the ancient past through the techniques and tools commonly used at an excavation.  Learn about how these scientists “read” the artifacts they find and how these items are sorted, catalogued, stored, and used to tell stories of the past.

Illinois State Museum current and retired archaeologists and other Illinois archaeology experts will be available to talk with participants and show equipment and specimens from the Museum’s collections.  Participants may also enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at Dickson Mounds Museum.

Kid’s Day programs are geared toward children ages 5 and up with an adult.  Registration is not required.  Admission is free; donations are appreciated.
