- Dickson Mounds, Lewistown
Join us for a great opportunity to visit a new archaeological excavation site in the Peoria area. It has been determined that this is the oldest Mississippian town in the Illinois Valley, predating Dickson Mounds and Eveland Village by one hundred years, and the first location of Cahokia contact 1,000 years ago.
Participants will enjoy touring the site and meeting the field crew. Meet at Dickson Mounds at 8:45 a.m. to board the bus and depart at 9:00 a.m. The site tour will take approximately two hours and will be followed by lunch at Old Mill Vineyard and a presentation by Dr. Duane Esarey of Dickson Mounds, Dr. Greg Wilson of University of California at Santa Barbara, and Dr. Dana Bardolph of Northern Illinois University. The bus will return to Dickson Mounds no later than 6:00 p.m.
There is a suggested donation of $110 for Illinois State Museum Society Members and $125 for non-members, which includes transportation, some snacks, lunch, and one complimentary beverage of your choice. Participants must be over 21 years of age.
Space is limited and registration is required by July 10thwith a $50 non-refundable deposit. The remainder of the payment is due the day of the trip. No credit cards please.
