unLOCK Artist Steven Carrelli will lead a presentation and discussion exploring agricultural imagery as inspiration in art from ancient times to the present. We will look at many images of artworks that feature agrarian imagery ¬– and wheat in particular – from the ancient Egyptian examples, through Medieval illuminations, to modern and contemporary works, and we'll invite thoughtful and lively discussion about how these works reflect the interrelationships between culture and nature, and between the urban and rural. We'll begin indoors at the Illinois State Museum, and then we'll wander outside to consider Carrelli's unLOCK installation "Harvest," and its relationship to the canal and the Norton Building.
